Head Coach : Khor Loke Yew
(pictured above with his wife, Yooi Foong Hing and their 4 boys, Brian, Aaron, Eric and Sean)
Coach Loke Yew (born 1969) graduated from UM's Law Faculty back in 1993. He played for UM Basketball Varsity Team from
1989 to 1993. He is presently a practising lawyer and a partner in an established law firm in Kuala Lumpur.
Coach Loke Yew first started out as the Assistant Coach for UM's Girls' Varsity Basketball Team (the head coach for the
Girls' team then was Dr. Khoo Siow Kian). He served as Assistant Coach from 1993 to 1995 and learned much from Dr. Khoo and
his experiences with the girls' team..
In 1996, when the then Boy's Varsity Basketball Team Head Coach, Professor Lim retired, Coach Loke Yew took over as the
Head Coach for the Boys' team.
Since then, Coach Loke Yew has implemented his preferred style of basketball, emphasizing uncompromising discipline,
tough pressure defense and an up-tempo offense based on sound basketball fundamentals that encourages team work, passing
and cooperation as well as individual creativity.
During the years that followed, Coach Loke Yew also coached several years as Head Coach at the Under-18 boys level,
both at school level and at PJ district level and further served as Assistant Coach to the Selangor Men's State Basketball
Team, under the national coach, Coach Tan Kok Heng.
A father of 4 young boys now, Coach Loke Yew now only concentrates on and coaches the UM Boys' Varsity Team
and the Ex-UM team (comprising former UM varsity players only).
His wife, Yooi Foong Hing, affectionately called "Si Mou" by the players, was also a UM Law Fac graduate (1989-1993)
and served as Team Manager for UM basketball team from 1991 to 1996. She is now a Legal and Compliance Manager with MAA
KL Mutual and although an extremely busy mother, still actively supports the team and cooks sumptuous meals for the team,
several times a year..
Coach Loke Yew may be a lawyer by profession, but he is a coach by passion and has coached on a volunteer basis, without
salary, all these years. He firmly believes that the great sport of basketball is a great tool and medium for young adults
to learn the essential skills and aptitudes of team work, cooperation, committement and perserverance, so vital to the success
of their future.

Assistant Coach : Alvin Li Tak Wing
Coach Tak Wing (born 1977) graduated from UM's Sports Science Faculty, majoring in Sports Management in 2001. He
played for UM Basketball Varsity Team from 1999-2000. He is presently an Assistant Manager in the Student Affairs Department
of UTAR.
Though a hardworking, relentless, always hustling player with a never-say-die attitude during his playing days, Coach
Tak Wing's forte was not in athletic performance. In his final year as a student, Coach Tak Wing transitioned to Student Team
Manager, immediately helping to contribute significantly to that year's team's Sultan Cup Championship finish and setting
the standard ever since as the best ever Student Team Manager that UMBBT has ever experienced. Bringing his expertise from
his Sports Science - Sports Management training as well as his positive attitude and creativity, Coach Tak Wing helped set
and refine many of our current traditions and practices.
After graduating, Coach Tak Wing worked
as a Sports Coordinator at TAR College from 2001-2004 during which he continued fulfilling his duties as Team Manager. In
2004, Coach Tak Wing entered the banking industry where work demands forced Coach Tak Wing to take a few years' leave of absence
from our team.
In 2008, Coach Tak Wing joined UTAR and returned to our coaching staff as Assistant
Coach cum Team Manager. Coach Tak Wing's return to our Coaching Staff was indeed highly welcome. Bringing with him his Sports
Management expertise and the experiences he had gained in sports coordination, event management and player organization, Coach
Tak Wing's addition brought a new level of organization and player motivation to our team, contributing significantly to our
team's 2009/2010 MASUM Championship . Amongst others, Coach Tak Wing brought the now team favorite principle of "TEAM = Together
We Achieve More" and helped internalize the principle in our team.
A proud father of a baby girl,
Allison, Coach Li Tak Wing continue to remain wholly dedicated, committed and an invaluable member of our Coaching Staff.

Assistant Coach : Tan Chun Pin
Coach Pin (born 1980) graduated from UM's Engineering Faculty in 2004. He played for UM Basketball Varsity Team
from 2000-2004. He is presently a financial planner at Great Eastern Life Assurance.
Not having received much structured and formal basketball coaching in his early playing days before joining UM, Coach
Pin came to UM Varsity Team as a player with great natural ability but little grounding in fundamentals. Initially the sixth-man
on the team, through hard work and a dedication to learning, Coach Pin quickly became one of the best player on his team,
finally being appointed Team Captain in 2003.
Having experienced basketball with and without formal coaching, Coach Pin came to appreciate and understand the importance
of good, structured, well organized formal coaching programs and how big a differnce it makes.
Ever a student of the game, Coach Pin continued to learn the more complex and challenging side of basketball from the
standpoint of leadership and coaching after graduating and dedicated many hours studying various coaching materials.
In 2006, Coach Pin formally joined UMBBT's coaching staff as Assistant Coach and immediately contributed significantly
his natural "people" leadership skills and his uncanny understanding of the coaching challenges.
Standing in for Coach Loke Yew in January 2007 for the ISKL Invitational Basketball Competition when Coach Loke Yew suffered
a somewhat serious sporting injury, Coach Pin guided the UM Team to a championship finish in his inaugural Head Coaching attempt,
demonstrating his great ability and natural aptitude towards coaching and people leadership.
Ever a student of the game and with a good analytical mind and extensive competitive experience, Coach Pin has quickly
become an invaluable part of the coaching staff, affording great opportunities for the coaches to discuss and strategise throughout
the season as well as providing an invaluable source of ideas and constructive suggestions at the side-lines during competiton
games.

Assistant Coach : Lim Ming Lip
Coach Ming Lip
(born 1983) graduated from UM's Sports
Science Faculty, majoring in Coaching, with a Minor in Exercise Physiology, in
2008.
Originally a High
Jump athlete (and an exceedingly
good and accomplished one, having represented the State of Perak to the
Malaysia Games in 2004, represented UM from 2004/2005 to 2007/2008 and the
Asian University Games in Hanor, Vietnam in 2007), UMBBT finally managed to
convince Coach Ming Lip to cross over to the sport of Basketball in 2005/2006
where he represented UM in the annual MASUM Inter-Varsity games and helped UM
to a 4th place finishing that year.
His incredible
vertical jumping abilities coupled with
his dedication to athletic excellence, made Coach Ming Lip one of our most
potentialed players, though his late start in the sport hampered that somewhat.
After graduating
in 2008, Coach Ming Lip continued to
dedicate himself to improving his basketball abilities and joined our alumni
team, Ex-UM. In 2011, Coach Ming Lip gained the distinction and widespread
notoriety as the first Ex-UM (or UM) player to slam dunk during a competitive
game! And not just a simple "break-away" undefended dunk, Coach Ming
Lip dunked on four (unfortunate) opposing players!!
In the meantime,
Coach Ming Lip joined the National
Sports Institute of Malaysia where he currently still serves in the Athletes
Periodisation Program Development Unit and continued to gain exposure and
practical experience in Coaching competitive team compeititon as a Committee
member for Malaysia Wheelchair Basketball Federation from 2005 to present, Assistant
Coach for Malaysia Wheelchair Basketball Team in the 4th ASEAN Para
Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand in 2008 and Head Coach for Malaysia
Wheelchair Basketball Team in ASIAN Para Games in Guangzhou, China in 2010.
In 2009, Coach
Ming Lip joined our UMBBT Coaching
Staff, bringing with him his extensive Coaching experiences and very relevant expertise
in Exercise Physiology, helping, amongst others, in designing valuable personalised
agility and plyometric exercise programs for our players and helping contribute
significantly to our 2009/2010 Champions finish in MASUM at Nilai.
At the end of
the 2010-2011 season and as a part of
our reorganization and unification of the girls and boys team’s Coaching Staff,
Coach Ming Lip acceded to our Coaching Committee’s request and accepted the
challenge of taking over as Head Coach of the UM girls’ basketball team
(UMGBT). Though Coach Ming Lip will,
from 2011-2012 season onwards, focus on UMGBT as Head Coach, he remains very
much a part of our Coaching Staff and as a result of the reorganization and
unification implemented, the respective Coaching Staffs of the UM boys
basketball team (UMBBT) and UMGBT will work closely together on both teams.
