Who Can Join?
UMBT is essentially Universiti Malaya's varsity basketball team. However, membership to UMBT is not confined to only those
12 players who are selected to represent the universiti in any particular year.
UMBT includes the players certainly, but also any one who has a love and passion for the game of basketball and wishes
to contribute to UMBT. Contribution can be in the form of assisting the coaching staff, managerial positions, training partners
or any other support positions.
We only ask for enthusiasm, dedication, commitment and loyalty.
Membership, once granted, is for life and includes family members.

Who Can Play?
First year players who are identified as having potential will be extended personal invitations to join in practice sessions
and to try out for the team. However, UMBT practice sessions are always open - anyone enthusiastic about learning basketball
is welcome to join in practice sessions.
Early in the season, around 14-18 players will be selected or ear-marked as "potential varsity players". 12
players will be selected from this pool of 14-18 players for each basketball competition which UM takes part in. No final
selection is made at this point and different (12) players may be selected for different competitions.
Towards the end of the season and nearing our Inter Varsity Competition (MASUM), a final selection will be made to select
the 12 best players based on skill, ability, past contribution, future potential, committment, discipline and attitude. No
favoritism in any form whatsoever is practised. The most deserving players are selected. These 12 players will have the honour
to represent and play for UM Varsity Team in MASUM.
Players not selected, whether in the early 14-18 pool, or in the final 12, are still welcomed and encouraged to continue
to attend practice sessions. However, emphasis and priority will be given to those ear-marked/selected.
